A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

A survey was sent to all commuters from the campus community, asking their commuting methods for the 2016-2017 academic year. It was assumed that all non-responding commuters use the least sustainable commuting method- driving alone.
