The college's Strategic Planning Council identifies long-term issues that should be addressed by the college to progress toward our mission goals. The following three strategic issues, identified in 2010, serve as the foundation for college-wide planning initiatives in 2011-2014:
1. Enhancing access for underserved populations
2. Optimizing student success for all students
3. Maximizing internal and external resources through innovation and reinvention to ensure institutional sustainability.

Item 1 directly addresses the social dimensions of sustainability. As stated in the strategic plan, the College intends to increase college access for all student populations by accomplishing the following:

1.1 Expand and sustain program offerings, delivery formats and locations to meet the academic, personal enrichment, professional and workforce development needs of a diverse student population.
1.2 Strategically penetrate middle and high schools to increase the opportunities for students to enroll at AACC.
1.3 Increase college access to underserved student populations, including minority, low-income, and first generation college.

3.1 Secure alternate sources of revenue for college’s operating and capital needs.
3.2 Secure federal, state, county, foundation and private funds to support Student Success initiatives.
3.3 Maximize existing resources to effectively achieve Student Success 2020.
3.4 Develop, support, recruit and retain a competent and diverse workforce.
