A brief description of the plan:
More than 15,000 people bike to and from Arizona State University’s four campuses each day. Many enhancements have been made to improve the safety and convenience of biking. Arizona State University has had a Bicycle Plan in place for a number of years; however, we are in the process of updating the bicycle plan to make the campus even more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. The following is currently in place for our bicyclists and to encourage others to bike to campus and be “green”:
ASU Parking and Transit offers a Helmets/Headlights/U-Lock Program in which these items are offered at 50% off the retail price. These may be purchased at all of our four campus locations.
ASU offers used bikes through ASU Surplus for very discounted prices.
ASU offers repair and rental through our Campus Bicycle Co-Ops; these are run by our student government. Students/staff can repair their bikes for free using the tools and the facility. Students/staff my also rent a bicycle for free.
Free compressor stations are conveniently located at strategic locations around campus.
Bike safety is taught and encouraged and students are educated about the current bicycle laws.
ASU Police provides an online bicycle registration to assist in deterring bike theft.
ASU works closely with the City of Tempe in which our main campus is located. 165 miles of bikeways have been mapped in Tempe with bicycle lanes and paths throughout the city.
There are currently over 9000 bike racks available for our students, including two bicycle corrals and a number of bicycle lockers.
