A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contribute to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:

On larger CMAR (Construction Manager at Risk) projects that are LEED Certified, the contractor is responsible for an on-site waste program. They design the system specific to the site and the project, they administer their program and they report their waste/recycle tonnages on a monthly basis until the project is complete. This is a contractual and LEED requirement.

Smaller projects and renovations are not controlled at this time. The assumption is that all debris is waste. This is in part due to the footprint required for multiple trash bins can be quite large and space is a premium on the campuses where renovations occur. More frequent pick-up of multiple bins becomes a safety issue on campus in addition to the logistics of heavier traffic on our malls.
