Climate surveys and needs assessment surveys have been conducted among students, faculty, and staff. The last assessment conducted was the COACHE Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey in 2014. Results indicated generally positive attitudes among faculty, but work-life balance and departmental culture were found to be concerns among female faculty members. These results have led to policy discussions among leadership groups and a more in-depth study was conducted focusing on on-campus childcare needs of employees.
Student diversity and educational equity are assessed each year as part of an Annual Knight Report. This report includes data on enrollment numbers and degrees awarded. Retention rates and graduation rates for all student groups are also analyzed each year. For 2014-15, minority students comprised 12.6% of Auburn’s overall enrollment and received 11.5% of all awarded degrees. Trends in enrollment and retention rates are taken into consideration in the planning and implementation of programs such as the PLUS retention program, P2ODS peer mentoring program, and the academic programs housed in the College of Engineering and College of Sciences and Mathematics.
Employee diversity and equity are also assessed each year as part of the Annual Knight Report. This report includes data on distribution of full-time faculty by race, distribution of full-time administrators by race, and an analysis of faculty and EEO-1 level positions filled by race. For 2014-15, Auburn’s faculty was 19.1% minority and 36.6% female. Administrators were 8.7% minority and 38.5% female. These results have been used in the creation and implementation of programs such as the Diversity Faculty Mentor Program, Pathways to Full Professor, and the Presidential Administrative Fellowship program.
