A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

In 2013-2014 Auburn participated in the COACHE (Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education) Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey. The survey was sent to 1,015 faculty, with 526 (52%) responding, out of a total of 5486 employees, or 18% of Auburns’ employees. COACHE surveys faculty about their experiences and views as regards several important areas of their work lives: Research, teaching, service; Resources in support of faculty work; Benefits, compensation, and work/life; Interdisciplinary work and collaboration; Mentoring; Tenure and promotion practices; Leadership and governance; Departmental collegiality, quality, engagement; Appreciation and recognition. A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

The 2013-2014 COACHE Provost’s Report provides extensive insight into what faculty view as positive aspects of working at Auburn University, but it also highlights a number of areas where opportunities for improvement exist. A unique feature of the COACHE survey is the ability to compare Auburn’s results to those from five selected peer institutions, as well as with the aggregate results from all 98 participating universities. Since 2014, the Faculty Success Implementation Committee has worked to identify opportunities to enhance faculty satisfaction among the following areas: Spousal/Partner Hiring and Flexible Workload/Modified Duties; Campus childcare; Enhanced training for department heads and chairs; Enhanced support to sustain increased research productivity; Increased support for academic careers of women.
