A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives, including efforts made during the previous three years:
In 2011 we began a three-year participation in the development and piloting of a new methodology by which colleges and universities can enter the voluntary carbon market to generate additional capital with which to drive their carbon reductions more deeply, more quickly.
The sponsor of that original effort was Chevrolet, working in collaboration with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Det Norske Veritas and the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
Through that program we transferred the following carbon reductions to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation on behalf of the Campus Clean Energy Campaign as a subset effort of the broader multi-year Carbon Reduction Initiative (CRI) of the Chevrolet Motor Division of GM.
FY 2011: 13,466 MT
FY 2012: 15,287 MT
FY 2014: 51,733 MT
Under the tenets of this innovative program, those credits were retired against the climate and not used to offset any emissions associated with the corporate enterprise of Chevrolet.
We are now working through Second Nature’s Carbon Credit & Purchasing Program - C2P2 (http://secondnature.org/carbon-credit-purchasing-program/) and will be transacting additional installments of carbon reduction credits so as to invest those proceeds in further carbon mitigation projects on campus to accelerate our progress towards carbon neutrality by a newly adopted neutrality date of 2030.
