PAE-1: Sustainability Coordination

"The Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) provides a forum for identification and discussion of issues pertaining to environmental sustainability and impact. The Committee also assists in identifying resources for effectively addressing issues and concerns."

The EAC provides resources to the campus and community surrounding BC. It's responsibilities include:
-Reviewing and recommending policies and procedures related to campus environmental impact, and environmental education;
-Serving as an advisory board for President’s Staff and any campus constituencies with questions on environmental practice;
-Reviewing and making recommendations regarding the College’s sustainability practices;
-Providing leadership in response to campus environmental issues;
-Promoting environmental awareness;
-Providing recommendations for addressing environmental issues and concerns;
-Submitting an annual report of activities and accomplishments to the President’s Office prior to the close of each academic year.

The Sustainability Office at Bellevue College is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and implementation of sustainability initiatives across campus. This broad purview includes:
-promoting alternative transportation options for students and employees;
-overseeing lighting and water fixture retrofits;
-measuring campus greenhouse gas emissions, campus energy and water consumption, and campus waste generation;
-integrating sustainability into the curriculum;
-engaging students and the community through events such as Earthweek;
-educating the campus community about waste reduction and sustainability in food systems.

This position reports to the Vice President of Administrative Services or designee (50%) and the Assistant Dean of Student Programs (50%). This person will be responsible for resource conservation and integrating sustainability into all aspects of Bellevue College, working closely with students, administrators, faculty, classified staff, outside agencies and our utility partners. A strong passion/desire to work collaboratively with students facilitating the ideals of sustainability is essential.

This position will also be responsible for implementing a new start-up campus-wide office on sustainability while fostering a sustainable/green culture within our campus community, establishing Bellevue College as a model organization exhibiting leadership in meeting and/or exceeding the College’s adherence to the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, and identifying and obtaining funding sources to sustain this new program.
