The EcoChallenge committee is made up of 12 students that oversee program development, marketing and communications for the national competition to increase recycling percentages and the local "Green" Game to teach students faculty and staff about Carbon Neutrality in a fun and engaging way..
Recyclemania takes place typically January through March, and engage all Residence Halls in a building-to-building competition.

Job descriptions were developed for each committee position, and students are recruited to submit resumes for consideration.

Staff sustainability coordinator oversees the committee and provides mentorship to the various areas as needed.

This program is 100% grant funded to fund t-shirts for "green out" during basketball game, competition prizes and trees for the offsetting portion of the carbon neutral basketball game.

Students staff all campus major events at the compost/recycling/landfill event bins to direct campus community as to proper sorting techniques. Trained students will in turn work as volunteers to staff these events throughout the year.

The office of sustainability will request volunteers from on campus service groups, athletic groups, and thru faculty to sign up for these events.

Our student waste diversion coordinator uses the "recycling game" to train all volunteers in proper sorting techniques before students are able to volunteer.

Program is overseen by the staff Sustainability Coordinator and purchased event bins and signage specifically for this effort.

The office of sustainability provides as the base of operations for student initiated and student led sustainability outreach programs as guided by the staff sustainability coordinator. The above programs among others are encompassed in the 3600 annual hours worked by the team of 12 labor students at the office of sustainability.
