A brief description of the student research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

The university takes part in two programs, in which students can apply for research stipends to work under the direction of BHSU faculty. The two programs are the BRIN program and the EPSCoR program, both of which have sustainability at the core at BHSU. Students through the EPSCoR program research and test new materials for solar cell applications. Through the BRIN program students work on one of several projects at the Center for the Conservation of Biological Resources housed in the School of Natural Sciences at BHSU.

Yes

A brief description of the faculty research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

The university has a seed grant program to initiate and support faculty research. In addition to this, the faculty have access to the South Dakota Board of Regents competitive research grant program. Both of these programs have always had an emphasis on the states and the universities research initiatives for which sustainability is a common thread. Recent examples are the emphasis on renewable energy and biofuels.
