A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

Modeled after the USGBC’s LEED rating program, BU’s Green Office Certification initiative awards points to individual offices across four categories: energy, waste reduction, recycling, and extra credit. Like LEED, your office can achieve a Certified, Silver, or Gold rating depending on how many points you earn. The initiative’s goal is to get faculty and staff thinking about sustainability in their office. The Green Office Certification not only hopes to raise awareness about energy and waste issues, but also to get people to adjust their behavior. Oftentimes individuals aren’t aware of the amount of control they have over their energy use or waste. The Green Office Certification works to show people that they can improve their sustainability by making simple and small adjustments.
