A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
An in-person survey of Bow Valley College students was conducted on Sept 5, 2017 as part of a Student Services Exposition booth. Learners were asked how they got to the campus on that particular date: by bicycle, walking, bus, train, carpooling, or by single-driver car. There were 147 respondents (bicycle: 1, walking: 12, bus: 40, train: 80, carpooling: 8, car: 6).
The percentage of students that use each of the following modes as their primary means of transportation to get to and from campus::

In addition to our own internal survey, Calgary Transit conducted an independent assessment of student commutes. They determined over 90% of our students use public transit. This high ratio of sustainable commutes is no doubt due to our central location and easy access to transit. Bow Valley College is located in the heart of downtown Calgary, with our front doors opening onto a LRT train platform. There are also many bus routes that stop outside our doors, and there is limited (paid) parking.
