The Multicultural Student Program is comprised of professional staff, student interns, and the affiliated student groups that support underrepresented students and/or generate programming associated with our mission to engage all students in dialogue about difference. The Advisory Committee for a Diverse Community advises offices in charge of supporting the diverse identity groups that constitute our campus community, on matters pertaining to the academic and social experience of students, faculty and staff. The Committee advises primarily on issues related to gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and social or geographical origin.

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

Bowdoin College encourages all staff members to grow and develop in their jobs by participating in workshops, conferences, training programs and other professional development opportunities. The College offers many such programs on campus throughout the year. These programs are offered at little or no cost to employees or departments and are offered by Human Resources, the Library and other College departments. Individual departments also offer their own in-service training programs for their employees. The Human Resources office also offers sexual harassment prevention training. Announcements are typically sent through campus mail or e-mail, and advance registration may be required. Supervisors can arrange for release time so employees can attend the programs of interest.
