Materials recycled, composted, reused, donated, re-sold, or otherwise diverted :
941.29 Tons

Materials disposed in a solid waste landfill or incinerator :
1,603.50 Tons

A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:

Brandeis recycles all common materials and uses commercial composting for dinning hall waste. We also conduct many waste reduction outreach efforts and participate in Recycle-mania.

Much material is donated and resold during the end of the year move out program "Give & Go" and in a furniture reuse program for offices. In 2010- we saved about 6 storage containers worth of material. We assume each container is 1 ton of materials saved for a total of 6 tons.

Brandeis contracts with the IR-Network to responsibly and safely dispose of electronics and reusable materials. For instance they arrange transport of furniture to Haiti that were donated during construction and renovation projects. Total tons through the IR network equal 148.2. Brandeis also has a used furniture program to reuse supplies needed by one department for another on campus through a listserve. The tons of furniture reused in this method is not tracked.
