A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives, including how workers are engaged in monitoring and advising on health and safety programs:

The college established an Environmental Health and Safety office in 1994 and employs a full time certified industrial hygienist to manage its environmental health and safety programs. Initiatives and programs in place include training employees in a variety of subjects, including laboratory safety, fall prevention, handling hazardous materials, confined space entry, ergonomics, asbestos awareness, bloodborne pathogens, emergency response, and others. Surveys, inspections, and equipment upgrades have been implemented in such as areas as fall prevention, emergency response equipment, electrical safety, and fire protection. Workers are engaged through face to face training sessions that include opportunities for dialog and feedback on conditions, and through regular visits to work areas, such as shops, labs and kitchens, during which participation is sought.
