The Strategic Plan added implementation of Cal Poly’s Climate Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and work towards meeting the Plan’s benchmarks in the areas of transportation, facilities, energy supply, agriculture, landscape, solid waste, and refrigerants.

The policy objectives include net zero emissions for new buildings will ensure that campus growth does not increase Cal Poly Pomona’s greenhouse gas emissions, 10% reduction in energy demand of 2005 building stock, and 5% reduction in building plug load.

The Climate Action Plan calls for 100% of the electricity used by campus to come from renewable, greenhouse gas-free, sources by 2030. This will be achieved by a combination of on-site renewable energy projects, renewable purchase agreements with utility companies, or the purchase of renewable energy credits, and a 50% reduction in emissions associated with natural gas consumed on campus.

Cal Poly Pomona signed onto the Carbon Commitment in 2007 and have used our Climate Action Plan as the guide in the university's efforts to reach carbon neutrality.

Our campus' Climate Action Plan and Chancellor's Office Sustainability Policy overlap quite a bit. We are using our GHG calculation to benchmark and as metrics for the Climate Action Plan. The Chancellor's Office has developed metrics for each area included within the policy. Each individual campus submits their campus data to the Chancellor's Office.
