One of Cal Poly Pomona's core values is to celebrate diversity to ensure the campus community reflects the state and region it serves. Many programs, facilities, and services are offered at the campus to promote these ideals. Cal Poly Pomona promotes an institution-wide approach to achieving a diverse and pluralistic community of students, faculty and staff. There are a variety of activities ranging from Intergroup Dialogue group discussions to film screenings to cultural ceremonies.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence trainings and activities for each of the groups identified above:

Cultural competency from a diversity perspective would encompass multicultural education, cultural pluralism, and even cross cultural counselor training. Both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs address these matters for the university. The educators who offer the following programs obtained their training through graduate degree pursuing programs or work experience.

The Ethnic and Women’s studies department offers a degree and courses (lhttp://www.cpp.edu/~ceis/ethnic-womens-studies/) and the AHIMSA Center offers programs (http://www.cpp.edu/~ahimsacenter/ahimsa_home.shtml).

Student Affairs hosts annual cross cultural retreats for students and staff. The CAPS organization in Student Affairs has offered workshops on the subject of Cross-Cultural Communication, Cultural Identity Development and Diversity Awareness.
