CSU Bakersfield is one of 12 colleges and universities in the Energize Colleges program, which submitted a case study for the CHESC best practices award. This case study highlights the approach that Energize Colleges took to utilizing student interns to teach sustainability while making measurable improvements to a university's environmental sustainability.

Through the CSUB Energize Colleges program, paid CSUB student interns engage high school students in environmental sustainability and clean energy projects by going to Kern High School District classrooms, Kern County conferences and events, or hosting students at the CSU Bakersfield campus. Some of the CSUB interns' activities have included presenting to high school students on the environmentally sustainable projects at CSUB, leading a community trash pick-up day at a local wildlife preserve, and leading hands-on and worksheet activities in energy education.

Through Strategic Energy Innovation's Energize Colleges program, CSU Bakersfield is part of a collaborative effort to advance high school and college course offerings in the clean energy sector and advance student interest in clean energy careers. The 12 colleges and universities share best practices and resources with each other in-person on a monthly basis and remotely on an on-going basis.
Through the Climate Corps program, CSU Bakersfield collaborates with partners in higher education, the public sector, and the private sector to advance education and work experience in sustainability.
