A.S.I. has a goal to increase awareness about environmental issues on campus and in the community. In an effort to create a dialogue, the Environmental Policy Committee surveyed students and designed peer-led eco-impact projects. As a result, students connect with others and learn more about sustainability efforts at Cal State LA.
Projects: Smoking Policy Resolution, Community Garden in Housing, Research on how to reduce plastic consumption on campus, Weekly tabling to promote the committee and events, Eco-Opinion Board
Community Affairs: Heal the Bay - Adopt a Beach program; volunteer beach clean ups, Trash Free Earth; volunteer park clean ups, DWP; working together to implement the Cocoon system on our campus, MOVE LA; collecting signatures for a petition to reduce public transportation for students

A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):
Students apply to serve on the A.S.I. Environmental Policy Committee. They are selected after a review of their applications, interviews, and approval by the A.S.I. Board of Directors.
A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):
The A.S.I. Environmental Policy Committee is trained for three days during the summer and winter breaks. Various leadership development and campus resource related topics are addressed during this training. Additionally, various Los Angeles-based environmental advocacy agencies attend the A.S.I. Environmental Policy Committee meetings to provide the students collaborative learning and partnering opportunities.

The A.S.I. Environmental Policy Committee has office availability in the University-Student Union and advisement from the A.S.I. Director of Programs and Leadership. Additionally, they receive a $5,000 program budget. Additional funding can be requested (as needed) through the A.S.I. Board of Directors.
