Does the institution have a plan to mitigate its greenhouse gas emissions that meets the criteria for this credit?:
No

A brief summary of the climate plan’s long-term goals:

Consistent with the AUCPCC, we recognize the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and have committed to preparing a Climate Action Plan. Currently however, the University does not have a CAP with specific, measurable goals to mitigate its greenhouse gas emissions. As resources come available to focus on a CAP, the campus intends to create specific, measurable goals within a Climate Action Plan and a Transportation Demand Management Plan framework, which will support the spirit of this credit in the future.

A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:

Phase I of CSUMB’s draft Climate Action Plan (CAP) is the beginning of a strategic roadmap to create emissions reduction targets and implement strategies to reach these goals. The CAP will build on the existing emissions inventory completed in 2008 and current emissions reducing efforts. It will also integrate and be consistent the draft California State University system-wide CAP that is currently in the early planning stages and will frame and guide the CSU-wide CAPs.
• The campus has set goals to save as much energy as possible, generate energy from renewable sources and explore carbon offsets as a last resort. The CAP will be a living document that is continuously updated as new information, partnerships, resources and technologies evolve. Phase II of the CAP will expand on each focus area outlined in Phase I and contain goals, interim targets to reach these goals, implementation strategies, progress to date, financial feasibility and metrics and mechanisms for tracking progress on goals and actions.
• Use Transportation Demand Management strategies to reduce single occupant vehicle trips to and within the campus.
• All new construction shall meet LEED Silver certifiable green building standards.
• CSUMB has pursued energy independence including on-site generation of energy and utilities that will include clean and ultraclean cogeneration technologies, photovoltaic arrays, and solar thermal hot water generation. We have currently committed to procuring approximately 17% of our current electrical requirements from a 1 megawatt photovoltaic array completed in July, 2010.
