Has the institution advocated for federal, state, and/or local public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, bills, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

On April 16, 2010 President Harrison partnered with 17 other CSU Presidents in order to ask US Representative Barbara Lee to support the FY 2011 Labor-HHS Appropriations bill. The first paragraph of her letter is as follows:

"We, the undersigned presidents of California State Universities, write to commend your long and strong leadership for higher education and sustainability and to call to your attention a matter of national significance related to the FY 2011 Labor-HHS Appropriations bill. We urge you to make the University Sustainability Program
(USP) one of your signature issues this year by providing at least $25,000,000 for competitive grants to take faculty training and curriculum development initiatives to
scale to integrate the principles of sustainability across all fields of study (20 USC
1116u)."

The Office of Advocacy and State Relations (ASR) represents and advocates for California State University interests with state government through effective advocacy, outreach and communication and relations with the Legislature, state agencies and other external entities with the support of the system office, campuses, alumni and other supporters.

The CSU Office of Federal Relations (OFR) works in Washington, D.C., to advance the interests of the nation's largest and most diverse university system. The OFR serves as a resource to Washington-based policymakers, including the California Congressional delegation, as well as to educational associations and media. The OFR also leads system efforts each year to formulate and coordinate the federal priorities of the CSU's 23 campuses.
