A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

A resident advisory sustainability committee was developed in Fall 2015-2016. The RA's on this committee work within housing to do programming on sustainability. They work with all the other committees to ensure that sustainability is a part of the different programs happening across housing.

One example of this is for all events that include food (movie nights, midnight snacks etc.) students that bring their reusable mugs, plates, silverware get to jump to the front of the line.


A brief description of how the student educators are selected:

Resident Advisors have to be a part of one of the committees. The RA's self-select the committee of their choice. Most members of this committee tend to be environmental studies/biology majors.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:

The Sustainability Manager and Recycling Coordinator conduct a training at the beginning of the year with the RAs focused on sustainability and waste management. Throughout the year, they request different trainings or support focused on different aspects of sustainability.


A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or faculty/staff coordination):

Support is offered via training. In addition, the RAs are given a small budget to host events.

Our sustainability club does a lot of peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education programs. There are 30 active club members and they do outreach to approximately 500 students per year through their different events and training programs.
