The University baseline for workplace heal and safety was adopted on June 1, 1992 as the Injury and Illness Prevention Program. It was adopted in accordance with CSU Executive Order 1039 and California state law in order to establish minimum requirements for maintaining a safe and healthy environment for campus employees and students
CSUSM is committed to providing an accessible, attractive, and safe environment for faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and visitors. It is the policy of the University to maintain, as it is reasonably within the control of the University to do so, a campus environment that will not adversely affect their health and safety or subject them to avoidable risks of accidental injury.
The University has developed an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) in compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations and guidelines. The goal of the IIPP is to assist University employees, volunteers, and students in identifying hazards in the workplace, determining how to correct hazards that may occur, and taking steps to prevent them from recurring.
The following describes specific requirements for program responsibility, compliance, communication, hazard assessment, accident/exposure investigations, hazard correction, training, and recordkeeping
● Identify a person or persons with authority and responsibility for implementing the program;
● Communicate with employees regarding health and safety matters and how to report hazards;
● Develop compliance strategies;
● Provide procedures for identifying and evaluating hazards and unsafe conditions;
● Investigate accidents and incidents;
● Develop procedures for correcting hazards and unsafe conditions;
● Provide employee training programs; and
● Maintain documentation for health and safety programs.
