The Carnegie Mellon vision for research is to meet the changing needs of society by building on traditions of innovation, problem solving, and interdisciplinarity, and the strategic plan of Carnegie Mellon has six pillars including one stating that "issues of environmental sustainability must play a role in learning, research and practice".
