A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:

Baseline is 2008, not 2005. CNM's inventory was conducted primarily by Physical Plant staff using an operational control approach. The emissions were measured using the Clean Air Cool Planet software because it was recommended by the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment and for its ease of use. The CA-CP Campus Carbon Climate Calculator's default emissions coefficient was used.

2016 Update: The Carbon Calculator (Cool Planet) and associated EXCEL files are not working properly from previous calculation (2014). Molly Blumhoefer has updated the information using current data collected and analysed by AMERESCO contractors. They have developed their own Energy Star Platform through PNM. CNM also has an Energy Star Platform through PNM. Since methodologies are not the same, numbers may be slightly different than what would have been found using 2014 Cool Planet calculator.

A brief description of the internal and/or external verification process:

Data was collected by the various areas within the Physical Plant to determine the data that was inputted in the calculator. The information was then reviewed by the CNM sustainability task team to review and confirmed information. In 2008 this information was being tracked in more systematic approach so that the information can be better measured.

Update: 2016: Recently hired energy contractors to help identify where energy is being used most intensively. They are helping CNM to identify behavioral changes needed and developing energy standards (set-points, equipment use, etc) and to draft an energy policy.
All newly renovated buildings are LEED certified.

Attached please find the data you requested for the sustainability report. You will find two data reports on fueling for APS and WEX, those reports have the amount of gallons as well as dollar amount for the year 2015. Below is a quick total for fueling:

Also to reiterate what Jim has said in the last email, we have a total of 182 vehicles on the fleet list which includes the Applied Technologies vehicles and a lot of those are just the ones that the students use to work on, they are not driven. We have 26 electric vehicles. In Fleet Services we have 76 of the 182 on our inventory and 26 are the GEM’s and 50 gas vehicles.

Under international agreement, CO2 emissions from the combustion of biomass or biofuels are not included in national greenhouse gas emissions inventories.2 Most of the retail gasoline now sold in the United States contains about 10% fuel ethanol (or E10) by volume. Burning a gallon of E10 produces about 17.68 pounds of CO2 that is emitted from the fossil fuel content.
