The new LEED Gold Certified Alumni & Student Engagement Center came online June 2016. .LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. At Clark we have two other certified buildings that were constructed in 2009:
LEED Gold: Lasry Center for Bioscience
LEED Silver: Blackstone Residence Hall
However, Clark also realized early on that LEED certification was a fancy way of giving someone else money for something you should already be doing for other reasons, such as energy saving, environmental protection, waste reduction and happy occupants. The $ spent on certification can go to the building itself instead.So the Clark policy (as mentioned elsewhere) is that all buildings and renovations are done to LEED Silver standards, but without the costly certification process. this question, though, only includes info about buildings that are certified.

It is Clark University policy that:
• New building construction will be designed and built to a minimum LEED Silver standard on all buildings larger than 5,000 square feet provided this does not increase the total cost of the project by more than 10%. This cost increment will be measured over the full life cycle of the building and will include any projected energy and other operating cost savings.
• Renovations will incorporate a minimum LEED Silver standard on all major capital renovations where the project costs will exceed 50% of the total replacement cost of the building.
• On smaller renovation projects (under 50%) the LEED criteria will still be applied to the defined scope of work.
• In all projects, sustainable practice for operations and maintenance will be exercised by incorporating relevant factors of the LEED standard regarding sustainable site selection, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design/operations.
• Questions concerning this policy should be communicated to the Director of Physical Plant.
