A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:

The Associate Vice President for Institutional Diversity Initiatives (AVP) is responsible for initiatives that will promote an enhanced presence of students from diverse backgrounds within the University's community. The AVP is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing university-wide goals for diversity, providing leadership for pipeline programs, consulting with campus constituencies, and coordinating a comprehensive university approach to campus diversity. Assisting faculty and staff in creating innovative programs designed to foster a climate of advocacy for diversity on campus and to enhance the recruitment, retention, and success for all members of the university is an important priority. Additionally, the AVP will develop articulation strategies and agreements with community colleges and other institutions—including corporations, government agencies, and foundations—that will encourage funding for educational programs, student scholarships, and fellowships for underrepresented students in science, mathematics, engineering and technology.
