Has the institution assessed diversity and equity in terms of campus climate?:
Yes

A brief description of the campus climate assessment(s) :

As Clarkson continues to seek an inclusive environment for learning, living, and working, our second campus climate survey project was started in 2012 with an in-depth and externally supported effort. The project was managed by a working group of staff, faculty and students and was facilitated by the Rankin and Associates consulting firm to minimize internal bias. The first climate survey was conducted in 2007. Campus climate is defined as attitudes, behaviors, and standards of employees and students concerning the access for, inclusion of, and level of respect for individual and group needs, abilities, and potential. A positive, inclusive climate would show respect for all campus community members, regardless of individual characteristics such as gender, race, sexual orientation, major, or university position. The 2012 effort was followed by a "pulse" survey in 2015 as part of the Self-Love, Self-Respect and Diversity Week initiatives.

Has the institution assessed student diversity and educational equity?:
Yes

A brief description of the student diversity and educational equity assessment(s):

The 2012 climate survey contained 102 questions. The survey was administered in October 2012 and asked respondents to provide information about their personal experiences with regard to climate issues and work-life experiences, their perceptions of the campus climate, and their perceptions of institutional actions (e.g., administrative policies and academic initiatives regarding climate issues and concerns) on campus. Participation in the survey was voluntary. The follow up 2015 pulse survey included 10 key questions that were deemed to be most relevant based on the more comprehensive 2012 assessment. Campus community members were invited to take the survey in person at various places around campus or using an online link (Survey Monkey). The Committee on Climate and Engagement plans to administer the survey every semester and use the results to help plan strategies and events moving forward.
