Students are selected by the Sustainability Coordinator, recommended by faculty/staff, and/or recruited by current green team members. Students are selected based on their interest and background qualifications.

Students receive one-on-one training from the sustainability coordinator on current sustainability initiatives as well as social media and community based social marketing techniques. Ongoing marketing/outreach support is also provided by the university's marketing department in conjunction with the university's advertising agency.

The Sustainability Coordinator is available to work with the Green Team several hours per week and funds are available from the sustainability marketing budget to support Green Team programs and initiatives
