The library adopted Engaged Scholarship at CSU in February 2012. EngagedScholarship@CSU utilizes the leading hosted institutional repository (IR) software platform, Digital Commons. It features a traditional IR as well as professional-grade publishing software, management tools, and individual faculty and researcher pages to promote and disseminate scholarship and serve academia.

With Digital Commons, Cleveland State University can collect, preserve, and make visible all of its intellectual output, including pre-prints, working papers, journal articles, dissertations, master’s theses, conference proceedings, presentations, creative works, and a wide variety of other content types.

Bepress provides the platform for the repository and when initially launched, they performed a jump start for selected subjects, such as Physics, for which they uploaded faculty publications that were easily accessible. The library provides processing for articles to be uploaded into Engaged Scholarship, including reviewing permissions to see what article formats can be legally posted. The library provides the funding for the subscription to Bepress, and recently offered a grant for faculty to adopt an open access textbook.

The policy is for subject librarians to share information about Engaged Scholarship with their faculty and invite them to submit lists of publications for inclusion. Some departments/colleges add their own publications. The library provides set-up support for faculty/departments that want to be included in Engaged Scholarship.
