In Fall 2012, Concordia began composting coffee grounds. A local farmer picked up the coffee grounds and used them on her farm. However this experiment stalled; we were simply producing too much volume for her to accept and put to use.

Concordia College, or any institution of its size, produces far too much compost to be used directly on campus (absent a large full scale farm and/or large land locations). Even with an expanded garden, we would be able to make use of only a fraction of our own compost, particularly in the populated area our campus inhabits. No local compost site or composting facility for food scraps exists. Composting is very much an interest for further exploration, but issues related to our campus' unique location have not yet been resolved.
