Eco-Reps, short for Eco-Representatives, is a program of Residence Life that seeks to support student leaders, and to invite all students to engage with issues related to sustainability and practice it together in the residence halls. These paid positions require a commitment of approximately 4 hours per week.
Eco-Reps:
• Lead Concordia’s participation in Campus Conservation Nationals
• Coordinate a sustainable move-out program
• Create and lead events and activities related to sustainability in your residence hall
• Decide how to shape the future of the Eco-Rep program
A brief description of how the student educators are selected:
Eco-Representatives must reside on-campus. In the spring, applications are accepted for returning students, with an additional application period in the early fall, so that 1st years have an opportunity to apply as well. The Sustainability Coordinator and Director of Residence Life review applications (which includes a CV, and answers to several questions about interest and vision), and make selections. Up to two representatives per hall are selected.
A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Eco-Representatives participate in Residence Life Leadership Training in September, which is also attended by the student leadership of each hall's Hall Council. This half day training introduces students to the resources available to assist student organizations at Concordia, information on publicity, and guidance on how to plan successful events. It is also an introduction to Residence Life staff, the structure of residence halls and their leadership, and programmatic expectations for the coming year.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or faculty/staff coordination):
Eco-Representatives is a program of Residence Life, which provides funding for student pay and for materials costs for events and other miscellaneous costs. The program is advised by the Sustainability Coordinator.
