Creation of the position of Sustainable Food Systems Coordinator

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

The Sustainable Food System Coordinator is in charge of identifying local food purchasing needs and opportunities, and developing constructive and collaborative relationships with contracted food service providers, local food suppliers, on-campus food initiatives and academic units.

The new sustainable food system coordinator also develop a reporting system to track and scale the amount of healthy, local and sustainable food served at Concordia. The coordinator will also reach out to local farmers and other suppliers, organize events like harvest festivals and get input from students on what foods they want to eat.


A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):

- Concordia campus will soon receive a "Fair Trade Campus" recognition.
- Implementation of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farmer's basket service. Up to now, more than 30 people benefited from the service, receiving a food basket every 2 weeks. In total, 394 baskets have been delivered so far.
- Implementation of a multi-stakeholder sustainable food service advisory committee. So far, the committee has met 3 times.
- Implementation of a food procurement reporting mechanism. Up to now, two reports from the food service contractor have been provided to the Sustainable Food System Coordinator.
