In 2010, the university mandated that completed masters and doctoral theses be submitted electronically to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and be deposited into the DalSpace repository. There are now more than 1500 open access theses in DalSpace:

Dalhousie library provides a number of online tools and resources that provide faculty members with the electronic platforms through which they can provide open access to peer-reviewed research.
The DalSpace repository (http://dalspace.library.dal.ca/) is “a digital service that collects, preserves, and distributes digital material produced by the Dalhousie community”. The library uses DalSpace as its platform for the “Scholars@Dal” initiative, a project that presents an online profile for each of Dalhousie University’s faculty members, along with a bibliography of research publications, a brief biography and a summary of research interests. Scholars@Dal provides a means by which faculty members and external researchers can identify Dalhousie University colleagues sharing areas of common research interest. Library staff will identify and make available in each faculty member’s profile the publications that are open access and can be loaded to the platform or that can be made available on site by publisher permission.
The library also provides an open source publishing platform, OJS - Open Journal Systems (http://ojs.library.dal.ca/) that provides Dalhousie University faculty members and students with the tools to manage and publish open access journals. At present, five undergraduate and graduate student journals are published on the platform in an open access format.
