In 2010, the university mandated that completed masters and doctoral theses be submitted electronically to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and be deposited into the DalSpace repository. There are now thousands of open access theses in DalSpace:

The library supports open access through a scholarly communications librarian, a copyright office and other library personnel who are dedicated to providing advice and tools to support open access to research outputs.
All researchers who receive funding from Tri-Agency funding bodies are required to make their outputs open access. The library provides a Tri-Agency compliant research repository (DalSpace [http://dalspace.library.dal.ca]) for this purpose as well as for any researcher who simply wants to make research outputs openly available. For those researchers looking for a place to deposit research data, we are developing a solution using an open source application called Dataverse.
In addition to the above, the library provides a journal hosting platform that is available to any Dalhousie scholar who wishes to start an open access journal and has a digital editions hosting program to support non-journal content.
