Dalhousie University collaborates with Saint Mary's University to host the Halifax Dump and Run. This is a community event that seeks to reduce the large number of items that end up in the landfill during residence move outs and raise money for charity through a large garage sale of second hand items. This event targets sustainability through promoting reuse of items instead of new purchases, reducing what most likely would have ended up in a landfill to other uses or to the necessary recycling stream, and educating the volunteers and the community on product life cycle. The work between Dalhousie and SMU is collaborative in nature through planning and support of the event and provision of materials and volunteers.
