Does the institution have a program to reduce residence hall move-out waste?:
A brief description of the program:
Annually, since May 2009, Move Out, a joint community-campus initiative, collects items in good condition to be donated to community families and organizations in need. This is a community-wide effort with the involvement of Rotary, Kiwanis and the Civic League in conjunction with the Office for Sustainability and DePauw University.
Last year was our most successful year yet. In partnership with the Putnam County Community Foundation we served 81 different families and donated the rest of the items to Goodwill. Items included:
Couches – 1 (sectional) 1 (lounger)
Futons – 11
Computer Chairs – 4
Microwaves – 6
Refrigerators – 10
Sweepers – 4
TV – 8
Fans - 5
Lamps – 9 (included big ones and small desk lamps)
Area Rugs – 10
Clothes – bras, underwear, shirts, pants, shorts, belts (Women’s and Men’s)
Shoes
Bedding/Sheets/Pillow Cases
Mattress Padding
Coats (Most went to Coats for Kids)
Food (Most went to Food Pantry)
Towels and Wash Cloths
Kitchen Supplies (utensils, dishes, cookware, toasters)
Cleaning Supplies
Toiletries
Bookcases/Shelving
Trash cans
Storage totes & units
School/Office Supplies
