A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:

DePauw University has two formal partnerships with the greater community of Greencastle, Ind. Through the Bonner Scholar Program and DePauw Community Service (DCS), our students partner with about 50 different community organizations annually including social service organizations, the public school system and city government.

DePauw University and Greencastle were also awarded a $19 million grant in 2011 to revitalize the courthouse square, relocate the DePauw bookstore, add public parking to downtown Greencastle, construct a community health center and other wellness initiatives such as a walking and fitness trail, and more.

Some partnerships to highlight include: the Greencastle Community Garden, the Mayor's Office, Greencastle Public School system, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the newly reopened homeless shelter. The reopening of the homeless shelter is thanks in large part to a local businessman and a DePauw employee, who purchased the building.
