A brief description of how the institution ensures that its lowest-paid workers (including contractors, if applicable) receive sustainable compensation:

EICCD conducted a wage assessment for employees in March 2011 using the Living Wage Calculator found at www.livingwage.geog.psu.edu/. No other source of living wage information was found to be available for Iowa. The calculation was performed for both Iowa as a whole, and for the 3 counties in Iowa where EICCD has campus locations. Of these counties, Scott County has the higheest hourly wage requirement for living wage, so this wage was used to assess all EICCD wages for employees and contractors. The Hourly Wage for One Adult category was used.

Living Wage:
State of Iowa Hourly Wage for One Adult $7.23
Scott County Hourly Wage for One Adult $8.51

EICCD's lowest regular pay grade for employees is $9.70 per hour. There are 10 part time employees making $7.25 per hour.

EICCD contracts with Temp Agencies, and also for some Custodial/Janatorial services. Wage queries were sent to these services, and informaiton provided shows that of the 64 contrated employees, 49 earn a Living Wage greater that $8.51/hour, and 15 earn less than this.
