The Diversity Council’s Mission is to assert leadership in the area of diversity by creating a culture of inclusion across Edmonds Community College and its surrounding community. The Council fulfills this purpose through a strategic plan that incorporates the college’s institutional performance goals of providing access to educational opportunities, supporting student success, creating a positive place to work and learn and the Council’s additional initiative of promoting community-wide involvement in the college’s diversity efforts.

A brief description of the diversity office:

There are two diversity offices on campus: Diversity Student Center and the Office of Diversity Affairs. The Diversity Student Center provides support and resources to diverse students, representing differences of age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, social class, etc. Resources include textbook rentals, laptop rentals, cultural events and activities, workshops, speaker series, etc. The Office of Diversity Affairs houses the Diversity Coordinator although this is currently under re-org.

A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:

The Special Assistant is charged with assessing the effectiveness of all diversity and outreach program and services on campus and is expected to lead Edmonds CC to measurable improvements in organizational climate and recruitment/retention in a diverse community. The position provides leadership in the planning, promotion, and advancement of a campus culture that values equity, diversity, and inclusiveness.

The College's structure of diversity offices are going under transition. In December 2012, the college recently hired a Special Assistant to the President for Equity and Inclusion, and she will begin on January 2nd, 2013. Her first task is to assess the current status of diversity, equity, and inclusion of our entire campus, including students, staff, faculty, and administration. She will act as Diversity Coordinator and oversee diversity-related programs on campus.
