A student intern collected and analyzed data for the annual greenhouse gas emissions inventory, which is a key aspect of monitoring progress toward the university's carbon neutrality goal. She learned about the components of and process for conducting an emissions inventory and strengthened her communication and data analysis skills. The student received credit for the internship, and there was documentation regarding learning.

Students in Elon’s Love School of Business worked with Biodiesel 4 Schools, an NC company that turns locally-sourced waste cooking oil into biodiesel to fuel school buses. This partnership was developed in Core Capstone course Sustainable Development taught by Susan Manring, associate professor of management, and resulted in the delivery of 7,500 gallons of NC-sourced biodiesel to Elon in August 2017. Students gained an understanding of the environmental impacts of biodiesel as well as the economic benefits of sourcing locally when possible, thus creating jobs and strengthening the local economy.
