A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to staff:
Starting in the fall of 2011, the Office of Sustainability, in partnership with the Office of Leadership and Professional Development (OLPD), began offering staff professional development opportunities on sustainability. The session, entitled Creating a More Sustainable Workplace, educates participants about Elon’s sustainability program and how they can be a Sustainability Leader in their office. Participants are encouraged to take the information gained back to their departments/offices along with a Sustainable Workplace Assessment Tool. The Tool helps departments/offices identify their accomplishments and areas for improvement. This introductory session continues to be offered once a semester and is included in an individual's Experiences Certificate provided by OLPD. Those who attend the session become part of the Sustainability Leaders group on campus. This group meets once a semester to share ideas and resources and to learn about new campus sustainability initiatives. The group also has a listserv and Moodle site for communication between in-person meetings.
The Faculty Fellow for Sustainability offers lunch and learn programs open to staff and faculty generally once a year. They are usually led by a faculty or staff member knowledgeable on the given topic. The last two topics were Green Cleaning and Opportunities and Challenges Associated with the Renewable Energy Revolution.

Office of Sustainability staff and the Faculty Fellow for Sustainability attend the AASHE conference regularly. Office of Sustainability staff are also supported in attending other conferences based upon interest. Funding is also provided for local workshops and webinars.
Some faculty members in the School of Education and the Environmental Studies department regularly attend professional conferences, which cover sustainability related topics.
