Elon University continues to work with local authorities to advocate for increased access to, and safety for, bicycle and pedestrian routes that serve the campus and surrounding area as well as public transportation services.
Elon University's Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and Director of Campus Safety and Police were on the Steering Committee for the Town of Elon Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Lighting Plan 2017 Update. The plan has been approved by the Town to proceed with fund raising and implementation. Elon University is located in the Town of Elon.
The City of Burlington's Bicycle, Pedestrian and Lighting Plan has a new bike and pedestrian path connecting Elon University to downtown Burlington as its number one proposal/plan. Elon University's President has advocated for support of this plan.
Elon University's BioBus system has two stops within close proximity to stops for the local public bus system, which provides some connectivity between the two systems.
In addition, Elon University is a strong supporter of the county K-12 school system and initiatives to strengthen it.
