Facilities Planning and Campus Development
In July of 2011, Fanshawe College retained a consulting firm to review and make suggestions on Storm Water Management (SWM) on campus. This report outlines comprehensive plans on SWM for both ongoing and new development projects. Using this report as a guide, Fanshawe has implemented many strategies to mitigate stormwater runoff including oil interceptors in parking lot storm drains, interceptor trenches around the campus, and have future plans to construct a SWM wet-pond quantity/quality facility. Most notably, the new Z Building features a storm water reclamation system that collects rainwater in an underground storage tank and recycles it for toilet flushing and site irrigation.
43,000 sf of living roof is located on Z building. Additionally, there is a small (250 sf) living roof on D building that is used for research in the Horticulture Technology Program.
