The name of the campaign(s):
Winter Holiday Campus Utility Savings Initiative

A brief description of the campaign(s):

A campus-wide campaign for the 4 day Thanksgiving and 11 day Winter Holiday breaks was mounted in 2012. The campaign was sponsored by the Facilities Management Department and coordinated by the Energy Manager. Multiple email notifications were sent to all students, faculty and staff prior to each holiday break, notifying the campus community to power down all equipment in residence halls, offices, classrooms and laboratories. On the long break Facilities staff conducted walk-through of all key buildings to monitor compliance and found that student compliance in the residence halls exceeded that of faculty and staff in the academic and administrative buildings!

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):

Compared to typical baseline electric and natural gas consumption, we estimate a total savings of 400,000 kWh and 1250 dekatherm of natural gas in our 1.6M GSF of facilities over the 15 day initiative, with a total utility expense savings estimate of $25,000. A more detailed report on the initiative is available at the URL below.
