Background Notes on Fleming College’s Innovative Sustainability Related
Research

One of the unique features of Fleming College is the sustainability focused
research conducted throughout the College. Although research is not
considered during faculty tenure and promotion decisions as a matter of
policy or standard practice, Fleming College does conduct
sustainability-focused research in areas such as at the Centre for
Alternative Wastewater Treatment, located within our School of
Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences at our Frost Campus in Lindsay,
Ontario. Research at the Centre is conducted in the following areas:

Constructed wetlands
Anaerobic digesters
Composting technology
Gasification technology
Membrane technology
UV • Ultrafiltration
Environmental spill technology
Bioremediation of heavy metals
Phosphorus removal technologies
Micronutrient stimulants
Lagoon circulation technology
Advanced Oxidation technologies
Aeration technologies
Modelling Software • Bioreactors

Below is a listing of major sustainability related research projects
conducted both at the Centre for Alternative Wastewater Research and across
the College in the period between 2013-16. For more information on these
and other projects please go to: https://flemingcollege.ca/applied-research
