A brief description of when and why the building energy consumption baseline was adopted:

The FY 2007-08 baseline year reflects the first year of reliable consumption data.

A brief description of any building temperature standards employed by the institution:

After hours, where possible, HVAC systems are shut down or perform at a greatly reduced capacity. In addition, most room temperatures are controlled within a standard range based on the type of systems and specific environmental requirements.

A brief description of any light emitting diode (LED) lighting employed by the institution:

Our exterior lighting standard for new construction is LED. Some offices and classrooms are LED where financially feasible.

A brief description of any occupancy and/or vacancy sensors employed by the institution:

Sensors are used extensively throughout the campus. They are used for both lighting and HVAC systems in many buildings.

A brief description of any passive solar heating employed by the institution:

The natatorium at the Leach Recreation Center uses 166 solar thermal panels for pool heating. The system is capable of providing all pool heat during warmer months as well as a fraction of the heat during cooler months.

A brief description of any ground-source heat pumps employed by the institution:

The OGZEB building used ground-source heat pumps for building heating. The Morcom swimming facility uses ground-source heat pumps for pool heating.

A brief description of any cogeneration technologies employed by the institution:

n/a

A brief description of any building recommissioning or retrofit program employed by the institution:

We continually recommission buildings to extract additional energy savings while maintaining the appropriate environmental conditions for the spaces.

A brief description of any energy metering and management systems employed by the institution:

Our controls systems are much more advanced than timers. We have a sophisticated scheduling process that incorporates class schedules and events into a database. Buildings systems are scheduled based on occupancy. Buildings employ either an ON/OFF or temperature set back process depending upon the type of building and the specific requirements of each occupant.

A brief description of the institution's program to replace energy-consuming appliances, equipment and systems with high efficiency alternatives:

The University upgrades energy consuming appliances and systems with high efficiency alternatives when the savings demonstrate a payback of 7 years or less.

A brief description of any energy-efficient landscape design initiatives employed by the institution:

n/a

A brief description of any vending machine sensors, lightless machines, or LED-lit machines employed by the institution:

The new generation of vending machines on campus provided by Coca-Cola are equipped with modern compressor management and lighting control systems.

A brief description of other energy conservation and efficiency initiatives employed by the institution:

The University has reduced its kBtu/sq ft for the past 5 years through a variety of retro-commissioning projects, event scheduling, equipment upgrades, and automated control system improvements.
