A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

Wellness programs are available to students, faculty, and staff through FSU's University Health Services & Campus Recreation departments:

Students - we provide resources and contact numbers for the counseling center, Health Promotion and its services including smoking cessation, sexual health, peer nutrition counseling, and dieticians, the FSUPD RAD program, massage and chiropractic, and clinical services available in the Wellness building. We also provide wellness testing (same listed below) as well as free fitness tests (5 components of fitness), free cooking classes for students (HWB Foods Lab), Couch to 5k program, and residence hall wellness talks and outreach. We also have all of the other aspects of Campus Recreation including Outdoor Pursuits trips, the new challenge course, the Rez, IM sports, aquatics, and club sports.

Faculty &Staff - we have implemented several programming areas specific for faculty and staff including the Couch 2 5K program, Start to Fitness training program, Faculty/Staff group exercise program, Eat Smart Be Active (a program now on the HR calendar that is funded through the USDA and hosted by department of Health); massage and chiropractic care, wellness testing including body composition, blood glucose and cholesterol screenings, aerobic capacity testing, resting metabolic rate testing, health coaching, wellness talks. CPR/First Aid, and swimming lessons are also available to students, staff, and faculty for a fee. We have also created a health risk assessment and distributed it to a pilot group of faculty and staff to get a sample size of data to see what issues need to be addressed regarding faculty/staff wellness.
In addition to the programming listed above, we do have the Employee Assistance Program that is free to all staff and faculty members of the university as well as any affiliates of those individuals. This program can provide counseling and make referrals if needed for additional help. We also have our Healthy Campus 2020 campaign run by Health Promotion and Campus Recreation and is broken into wellness sub-committees including fitness/nutrition, mental health, disordered eating, sexual health and sexual violence, tobacco and other drugs, and alcohol awareness.

Employee Assistance programs are provided through the Division of Finance & Administration:
The mission of the Employee Assistance Program is to contribute to a healthier work environment by assisting individuals with personal problems and by consulting with supervisors on individual employee and group concerns. Services include: assessment of personal difficulties, short-term intervention, referral to community resources, and development of a community resource base, consulting with supervisors when an employees' personal difficulties appear to be affecting job performance or when group dynamics are interfering with departmental performance, training in relevant areas, and providing alternative dispute management (mediation). The EAP provides the following for employees and their dependents: Confidential and timely problem identification/assessment services for employee clients, and their dependents, with personal concerns that may impact their lives and/or job performance; use of constructive confrontation, motivation, and short-term intervention with employee clients to address problems that affect job performance; referral of clients for diagnosis, treatment, and assistance, plus monitoring and follow-up services. Additionally, EAP offers trainings on topics of personal benefit to individuals: stressed out, compassion fatigue, positive psychology, etc.
