A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage student research in sustainability:

The President's Advisory Council for Sustainability (PACS) provides funding each semester that encourages and supports student research in sustainability. In Spring of 2016 several undergraduate and graduate students received funding to conduct research on the endangered local species, the Allegheny wood rat, tree ring analysis for understanding of past forest conditions, and rain gardens and their effectiveness for storm water management on campus, among other funded projects.

Yes

A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage faculty research in sustainability:

The President's Advisory Council for Sustainability (PACS) provides funding each semester that encourages and supports faculty research in sustainability (as well as student research mentioned above). The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has also supported a staff position, the Sustainability Liaison, who has conducted research in sustainability as part of his campus duties to support sustainability initiatives. Recent publications of research by the Sustainability Liaison (Dan Fiscus) include:

Our promotion decisions look at professional development. In our institution, professional development means many things, among them research. We do not differentiate between disciplinary research and interdisciplinary research. The promotion decision is not hindered by research that is interdisciplinary.
