Does the institution have an ongoing program or programs that offer incentives for faculty in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses?:
A brief description of the program(s), including positive outcomes during the previous three years (e.g. descriptions of new courses or course content resulting from the program):
Mason has sustainability-focused or sustainability-related Green Leaf courses designated within its course catalog. In FY17, Mason launched two pathways through General Education courses that focused on sustainability and well-being called Mason ENCORE. Out of the approximately 40 credits of Mason Core requirements, at least 18 credits must be related to the relevant ENCORE program. Students that complete Mason ENCORE will earn a completion certificate and is recognized on transcripts.
A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:
Faculty members were encouraged and invited to join the Provost sponsored initiative. Mason also hosted a Faculty Learning Community regarding the Mason Core and Well-being which was open to any faculty who taught a core course. Faculty members received a $500 stipend for participation in the semester long process, including attending meetings and creating an appropriate summary of how concepts might be more explicitly dealt with in their respective course.
